The dirty little secret of componentized software:

Upgrading to .27 requires me to *upgrade the whole OS*.

Well, or go back to building it from scratch.  I did that until people
started packaging it for my distro, and it was so much fun to do that
I can't *wait* to go back to doing it again.</sarcasm>

But hell, I guess if I'm not happy about it, everyone involved will
happily give me double my money back, so...
