[mythtv-users] Ubuntu 12.04 upgrade

In that case, especially, why not install Mythbuntu (Ubuntu configured 
for MythTV), first, and then if you need other non-MythTV things on the 
box, install them as you would on Ubuntu (rather than trying to 
reconfigure Ubuntu to be more like Mythbuntu.)
