[mythtv-users] autoexpire started deleting recent shows?

My understanding is that shows you are delete are actually just marked as
such and put to the front of the expire queue rather than being deleted
immediately.

They are then deleted from disk as required.

Though I think that there may be some configurable options in there I think
this is the intended default behaviour.
