Just released (yesterday) - the FCC is allowing cable companies to
encrypt everything. There is some language about allowing affected users
of QAM TVs a free cable box for one year. Also the six major cable
companies are required to support reception of basic channels via
ip-connected devices for some period. This seems to refer mainly to
"boxee". They have to give 30 days notice before encrypting the basic
channels.

Many times in the document, about once a page, it states how few users
are affected, and at the end claims that it is a win for consumers.

I suppose the time to replace my QAM tuners is coming. I guess it is a
win for the manufacturers of HD Homerun prime and similar devices.
