I have backend on virtualbox and frontend running on an old laptop
stashed behind the tv. Currently with the 0.25.3 version I posted, it
runs perfectly on the frontend (even over 300mbps wifi) as if it is a
combined system (remote frontend is connected via wifi). I too
noticed this terrible slowdown in the frontends whenever I deviated
from the 0.25.3 version above. It was particularly bad on the most
recent version of 0.26.

I tried troubleshooting the frontend slowdown issue, but it seemed
like it was purely due to the mythtv network protocol. i.e. I could
play videos over the network with VLC without any problems at all, but
try to play the same thing with mythtv-frontend and it was terrible.

Me too, I'll never go back to a separate box for a backend - waste of
power and hardware as well as a pain when there is a problem with
changes/upgrades.
p.s. since I get this mailing list in batches, I never know how to
properly reply to the list.
