TL;DR: how close of a mythfrontend replacement can xbmc be?
I've been using mythtv for many years, but quite frankly, even in 0.24,
the media center pieces, outside of playing its own recorded videos,
aren't that great in my experience:
Playing flash video from youtube or others, it bad to say the least,
when it works at all.
No support for amazon prime videos or anything else like that, and I'm
actually now interested in amazon prime video from the remote in a way that
"just works" (watching youtube in mythfrontend 0.24 is frustrating to say
the least).
I have found a few threads in the archives, but they date somewhat now, and
xmbc has just come out with version 11 RC2, which seems to have improved
mythtv support.
My reading so far seems to say that it's not a full mythfrontend
replacement. I'm not sure if it does livetv now, but I don't care about that
as long as I can schedule and watch recordings.
So, I looked at XBMC again, which I'm told is much better at those
things, especially because it includes amazon video support it seems:

This is great.
But...
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=MythTV
says that
1) mythtv 0.24 backend is not supported by the last released version
2) xbmc does not support controlling mythtv-backend for anything other
than playback. This means that I'd have to switch between mythfrontend
and xbmc on my media player or use another to schedule shows to record.
Very non ideal...
It sounds that the page is outdated and it can do more today.
Of those of you using xbmc, how much of a mythfrontend replacement can it be
today?
Do you still need to switch between the two?
Thanks,
Marc
