There are only two reasons to use a slave backend, you're simply out of
expansion capacity in your master backend, or a slave backend can be put
in a location more convenient to the source. Is your master backing
going to be placed in a location that does not currently have a unicable
drop, and is not conducive to running one from the dish?

As you say, there is next to no CPU load. The scheduler and database
are all handled by the master backend, while recording from digital
tuners is just a file copy. Just make sure you have it connected to a
hardline. You don't want to try to record to an NFS share over wireless.
