Have you tried to play the saved HD files using either mplayer, ffmpeg or VLC?

What do you get?

If you can play them with either mplayer or ffmpeg the start of the
cli output will tell you the format/contents of the file.  If played
with VLC then TOOLS --> CODEC INFORMATION should give you the samesque
info.

That'll give you info from which to move forward.
