put it in the basement? attic? garage? I hear ya though, lucky me
though I can place my two servers in a storage room in our basement.
stays cool in the summer too which is nice. it is spring, perfect
time to do some landscaping! (we just built our veggie grow boxes)

yea, I hear ya. I used to do the same. but the more I read about raid
and backups and such, I came to the conclusion that the best backup is
another drive on another machine, if possible in another state (my
parents in CA and I in MA swap our important data to each other for
backup). sounds like that 2TB disk is your best bet for data backup.

rdiff is your friend ;-)

I hadn't heard of mhddfs until recently either, but have been running
it and am very happy with it. I like that it just merges the existing
filesystems, regardless of what they are, to how you see them. I do
wish it had some more advanced space balancing options (ie
restrictions), but nothing major and I don't think LVM can do that
either.
