This being free space?  (I'm assuming you have much bigger file systems 
than that.)

No, recording file system is chosen exclusively according to criteria 
you've specified with your selection of the Storage Groups Disk 
Scheduler (  
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Storage_Groups#Storage_Group_Disk_Scheduler).

It looks like for some reason it wasn't able to expire enough recordings 
or expire recordings fast enough to make room for the recording in 
progress.  This could happen for any of a number of reasons, but I'd 
need -v file,extra logs to have anything more than a list of guesses.
