Thanks for the link. I had been trying to figure out how to get the Windows
idle3 program onto the WD bootable CD.

I have two 1 TB drives on a 24x7 combined FE/BE and file server. Both drivers
started with the idle3 timer set to 80 (0x50).

The drive used to store video and most of the served files is a WD10EADS-00L5B1,
which is a 4K sector drive. It shows only a modest Load Cycle Count of 65, which
seems ridiculously low as the drive has been in service for 18 months.

The second drive, a WD10EARS-00Y5B1 with 512 byte sectors, is used as the boot
drive and contains the database. The drive has been in service about 30 months
and shows a Load Cycle Count of 1636408. This one seems too large, particularly
if the lifetime value is really 300K.

Both drives now have their idle3 timer values set to 255 (0xFF) and I will keep
an eye on that boot drive.

Larry
