IMHO. I've a samsung TV and a bunch of frontends (ATI, apple, VDPAU)
The TV streams myth via upnp.
We are 50Hz but many movies are US (60Hz)

The TV gives significantly better (less flicker) picture quality than any of the frontends.

TV data input is more cumbersome than a keyboard/mouse.
The uPnP (maybe options I've not explored) does NOT honour cut points.

So I'd never use a monitor in lieu of a tv, but would never forgo a monitor frontend for edit.
