Very interesting. One server is very tantalizing.
Would it help to have 2 Ethernet cards ?
I have 2 switches. One is a gigabit switch and the only thing on it is
Myth FEs and the server.
The other switch is 10/100 and has "general" stuff on it. I could tap into
it with a second Ethernet card so that NAS bandwidth stays off the Gigabit
switch.
As far as disk access, my new server has 2 6 GB SATA ports on it.
Does it help if the NAS drives are handled by a separate card ?
What happens when the NAS stuff uses Linux software RAID ?
Just to give you an idea of the NAS requirements, I have a high end digital
camera and thus have directories with hundreds of 20 MB files in them.
When I fire up Digikam, it sometimes wants to load a directory all at once.
I'm running an E4200 router. It allows QOS throttling.
