[mythtv-users] Is the Nova-T-500 IR Receiver "generic"

Hi all,

Think I am confusing myself a bit, trying to setup my remote to work with
mythtv. Before I start trying to diagnose things that might be hardware
limitations, I thought I had best ask.

I have a Nova-T-500 dual tuner, which comes with an IR receiver. Are these
type of receivers, i.e, ones that come with a card, "generic" in that they
see any remote IR codes, or are they "fixed", in that they only work with
the Nova remote?

I posted some time ago asking for help setting up my Harmony remote and was
advised to tell the Harmony remote to be an MCE one, but I can't get my myth
box to see any commands from it, using irrecord and irw for example. I can
set the Harmony as a Nova-T-500 and then I do get some output from it.

So I just want to make sure I am not way off, before getting to stuck in to
this, LIRC and the like confuses me, despite reading up a lot on things.

I am also under the impression that I might not need lirc for this IR
receiver, as it should work as a keyboard (dev input device?)

Many thanks

Martin
