[mythtv-users] Help with mythtranscode --fifodir please

Hi,

I want to look into using mythtranscode to drive Handbrake, but I cannot
find any detailed documentation of mythtranscode. The wiki gives some
information, but I'm wondering:

1. If --fifodir is passed, does mythtranscode still replace the
    recording with a transcoded one, or does it just run video
    and audio into the fifos?

2. Does one still have to specify a profile? And if so, is it ignored,
    or does it specify what is passed into the fifos? I'd have assumed
    raw video and audio would be passed, but it's not clear.

3. What does "Enforce fifo sync" mean?

4. Why would --buildindex be used in conjunction with the fifos,
    assuming the fifos are for communicating with another compression
    program?

I have an inkling that I'm completely misunderstanding the intended
use. :-(
