Hello Michael, I am not expert on Debian, but I am running Debian
Squeeze and I get working the lirc.

I am using a MCE remote, I just config this way:

1. Install source modules: (select “mceusb2”)

apt-get install lirc-modules-source

2. Config module:

m-a prepare
m-a a-i lirc

Load module:

modprobe lirc_mceusb2
