Basically going from an LVM with a few random drives I have -> 4x2TB RAID5 + 1 system disk (trying to get all my stuff on one machine for various household reasons, heh). Should I be getting an external/extra power supply, or a UPS, for this setup? (Box is a Q6600/4gb ram/700w psu).

I don't run any critical servers at home without a UPS...

and more importantly (as my clients have learned) A device plugged into a UPS without knowing about it isn't much more useful than just plugging that device straight into the wall.

The key feature of a UPS is that the device is notified of a power failure and can shutdown gracefully if need be.
Without that, the UPS can run out of juice during extended outages resulting in the same type of power removal as a blackout would have incurred.

So, it doesn't take a BIG UPS, just one large enough to maybe run your stuff for 15minutes and tell the connected server it's time to shut-down.

Cheers,
