I was the one who mentioned disabling hyperthreading. It was
specifically to work around a bug (linked in that post) that only
occurs after suspending to RAM and resuming. If you are having VDPAU
problems after a reboot without having suspended to RAM, then it is
most likely due to some other issue, and hyperthreading is a red
herring.

FWIW, I have not noticed any performance degradation on my Atom 230
with hyperthreading completely disabled in the BIOS. Having said that,
when I have time I will probably re-enable it in my BIOS and instead
add a script to disable it on suspend and re-enable it on resume.
