Great idea, thanks! And it's even simpler: the monitor script runs in 30sec
intervals anyway, so I just need to check for the magic file and if it
exists, delete it and reset the idle counter.

However, my original post wasn't exact enough, I fear: because I had implied
that I also need to monitor keypresses from the keyboard, i.e. input NOT
going through lirc. That's way I originally had hoped to use Myth's system
events. Any other ideas?
