is this when watching live tv or recorded? (ie is it issue #1 or #3)?

yes, from my understanding. I have not tried to watch a file from my
recorded content through MythVideo yet to see if the issue emerges,
but none of the normal x264 or mpeg2 content I've played through
MythVideo have had the issue. it is what initially made me think the
problem was due to mysql.
