When installing from source, I 'make uninstall' the themes, plugins
and mythtv core (in that order). Then I'll look in the installation
directories and clear out any stranded files from the previous install
that were not removed by the Makefile. Then I build and install the
new code.
Of course, if you build local packages from the git source (or install
from pre-built packages), upgrading is a lot more straightforward.
