[mythtv-users] Best way to upgrade

I've tried doing some google searches and haven't been able to find an answer to this fundamental question.  What is the best way to upgrade mythtv?  Should I do a make uninstall on the old themes/plugins/main and then install the new version?  Should I just install over the old version?  What do the rest of you do?  (and am I just blind or is this not answered in the wiki?)
