Recommended?  Yes.  But where's the fun in that?!

The joy of MythTV lies in using _possible_ (rather than recommended)
hardware to do the job, and if you free yourself from the i3/5/7 lineup the
diversity of cool remote frontends and hardware starts to become a real joy
for even the average geek.

Of course, if you want something to "just work" with MythTV, you're best bet
is to go with what's recommended.
