Comskip will not work on DRM restricted  recordings made via a
cable card, since it cannot access the underlying files to
analyze them.   That's a big advantage to using a non-DRM'ed
recording device.

Be aware that DRM can cause recordings to fail, expire, etc.
The latest example is that a lot of people recording the SuperBowl
on their Ceton cards missed the last quarter. See

Last, in your cost considerations, you should also factor in how
much an equivalent HD-PVR based satellite system would cost.
Often times, Sat. prices are cheaper.
