Hi JYA,

Macosx is based on nextstep which is itself based on freebsd components with
the mach based hybrid kernel... this frameworks then has apples ui
components on top.

As the mach kernel was designed to be freebsds kernel (but never was) you
can indeed say that macosx is a derivative of freebsd.

The kernel derivative in macosx is mach altered to be a hybrid design rather
than either a micro-(mach style) or monolithic-(bsd style) kernel.
