At a guess, they're taking a screenshot of the display buffer, and this
is bypassed when viewing video (which is processed and rendered on the
graphics card instead).  It'd need to re-render in software in order to
get a suitable image to save.  As a workaround, you could probably change
the video rendering method (providing your frontend is beefy enough to
manage).
