Well I tried an Ubuntu 10.10 install for my frontend and the remote was much much quicker, of course many things (everything) has changed with a fresh install but I never saw any changes to this upgrading before. I saw there has been significant re-design of the kernel ir system but not sure how much of this affects Ubuntu yet.

I had some other issues with the nvidia driver so went back to my 10.04 netboot install.
