The discussion was more about SD capture using the Svideo or composite inputs as a cheaper option than the HD Homerun. I think you need the HVR-4000 version before you get SVideo & Composite, there are cheap Nova Splus DVBS cards around on eBay which can do Svideo & composite.

Other methods are an exercise in Google fu to find the darker corners where such things are spoken of, don't even ask for directions on here!
