Sorry about the delay in replies, it has been an insane week at work, (built an in-ground swimming pool for a 3 day long trade show:D)
If I have the lirc_imon loaded and LCDd and lcdproc running I get nothing.

But I got smart today and plugged the thing into my macbook pro, running karmic, installed lirc, and lcdproc, and bingo it worked...
So now I am wondering if it has something to do with the chipset on the motherboard asus p7h55-m pro. I am running kernel 2.6.31-14.
