No, I don't think it's I/O issue since I have a separate disk that has
the DB and the root partitions and at the time there was only one
recording going on.

I've done this in the past and I've looked at the channel while the
recording is in progress connecting my TV to the cable box via HDMI
and the picture was flawless so I don't think it's signal quality.

Funny you should say this since these dropouts from this morning are
exactly with ESPN HD... But the earlier recording was also on ESPN HD
and it didn't have them while the second and third of the day did (all
of the World Cup games). Yesterday I didn't watch any of the
recordings but the day before yesterday there were no dropouts at all.
