But a table that tells if it will do Advanced 2x with MythTV is
relevant, and that is what is there. A table with lots of data about
memory bandwidth and shaders doesn't directly tell you how it will
handle Advanced 2x, which really is the only VDPAU performance metric
that varies significantly across the VDPAU capable cards. I didn't
mean to discourage anyone from adding to the wiki, because everybody
benefits from that effort. But adding lots of information that doesn't
directly help users choose a card can sometimes make things worse, not
better. After performance with Advanced 2x, probably the next most
useful bit of info would be idle/load power usage. But as you know
these numbers are hard to come by and hard to compare across cards,
because different systems and tests are used for the numbers you can
find. Generally within one generation lower number goes with lower
power usage, and across generations you generally get more performance
per Watt. So the process is generally find a card that can do VDPAU
with Advanced 2x. Then pick the one is the lowest cost or lowest power
(which often coincide).
