MythTV has the capability to to this - you need a motherboard that has a
ACPI wakeup and need to set up mythwelcome.  See

My combined FE/BE box is set up this way (MythTV 0.21).  It definitely
works, but takes some effort to get working just right.  When the machine is
shut down, it pulls about 10W or so of power.  Other power supplies or
motherboards may be able to go lower.
