I have a similar problem with my (MCE) remote, so I've tuned into this
discussion.  I know that I have seen similar discussions in the past,
but haven't looked for them on Gossamer threads yet.

I've also thought about changing the batteries in the remote to see if
that helped.

I've also thought about ssh-ing into the mythbox prior to turning on
the TV and checking out the status of the LIRCD -- is it swapped out?
If so, why?  etc...

Perhaps you've done all of this.  Perhaps one of these ideas might help.
