[mythtv-users] Lirc slow to start on Myth 0.22

I upgraded from MythTV 0.21 to 0.22 today (and Ubuntu Jaunty to Karmic)
using MythBuntu. Everything works.... eventually. I haven't been able to
identify exactly what is going on, but when the frontend first starts up, it
is responsive to the keyboard, but it ignores the remote. After a while,
possibly after some mouse motion and clicks, the remote starts working.

MythTV is connecting to the lircd at startup and irw works consistently
without any sort of delay. I thought it might be some kind of window focus
issue, but I'm using native lirc support which supposedly isn't impacted by
window focus.

Output of mythfrontend:

2010-02-25 22:44:36.564 mythfrontend version: branches/release-0-22-fixes
[22594] www.mythtv.org
...
2010-02-25 22:44:37.370 LIRC: Successfully initialized '/dev/lircd' using
'/home/dvhart/.mythtv/lircrc' config

No more LIRC messages in the log.

/var/log/syslog shows mythtv connecting to lirc immediately as well:

Feb 25 22:44:37 katara lircd-0.8.6[5187]: accepted new client on
/var/run/lirc/lircd

Can anyone think of why 0.22 might not respond to remote key presses
immediately?

# I connect with irw to ensure it's working, it is
Feb 26 00:11:24 katara lircd-0.8.6[5187]: accepted new client on
/var/run/lirc/lircd
# I kill irw
Feb 26 00:11:37 katara lircd-0.8.6[5187]: removed client

I wait another couple minutes. Then I use the keyboard and mouse, move
through the menu a bit, click, right click, move the mouse. Then the remote
starts working at 00:13:00 - a full 5 minutes after I started mythv.
