Generally speaking, the KernelLabs trees are created specifically to
make one particular device work. We take a current snapshot of the
master v4l-dvb tree and then work on the device in question until we
are comfortable that it is stable. We do not rebase against the
mainline after the initial fork, so any fixes for other devices made
to the main v4l-dvb tree will not be reflected in the kernellabs tree
(for example, updates to the HD-PVR driver to support new USB device
IDs).

People should really treat those as "development trees for a
particular device", and shouldn't expect them to have the latest and
greatest drivers for every other device. If you want to get the
latest snapshot to see how it works with your device, feel free. But
don't come complaining when it doesn't include support for other
devices, doesn't include the latest wizbang feature in the current
master, or doesn't build against your latest kernel/distro.

Cheers,

Devin
