>Yes, you can. The connector on the card is specifically designed to be
compatible with S-Video, as well as taking the HD breakout dongle (Which
uses extra pins, as well as the S-Video ones, to provide the Yr/Yv/PB
(or whatever) signals). So you don't need the HD dongle to run an
S-Video out from an NVidia card, but you do need it if you want to run
Component, and you can use a standard S-Video->Composite if you need
that instead.
Reminds me of the adage, see one, do one, teach one (and that's when learning starts!)
I've only used composite and component outputs, so I guess that will be obvious now.
Now I know why the NVIDIA card's socket is called an S-Video, cause it is, but with three extra wires also added in...
Appreciate the clarification, thank you Robert at al.
Looking at the wiring it would appear that one may be able to, using a dongle, pull out composite and S-Video simultaneously,
presuming compatible monitors. Anyone done this?
I'm pleased you worked that bit out Jessica! Do let us know what the final xorg.conf works out to be, or indeed if it works without
one?
