Dah! Gotta learn to read better. Problem #2 solved though...I posted the
link to the answer in my original post...sheesh...

That link explains what I needed to do. Couldn't have spelled it out any
clearer and it was quite easy to do. I just didn't put 2 and 2 together
till a few minutes ago...Sorry for junking up the list with that bit...

One thing to note, is that while mythtv looks nice now, when I go back
to the desktop the resolution hasn't changed. I don't expect mythtv to
do this, but I admit that I was hoping for a "magic bullet" that got
both targets.

I still have made no progress on Problem #1. Any input would be nice.
