If you really mean kill mythbackendpid, is 10.04 using Upstart to
control the process?  See if there's something like mythbackend.conf
under /etc/init (not /etc/init.d.)  There may be a 'respawn' line
in the .conf file, which would explain the new PIDs.

If so, then try: sudo stop mythbackend rather than killing the PID.
