OK, thanks. I've heard of "soft CAMs", which I think are related to some of 
the methods that used to be used to steal DirectTV service, I just wanted to 
be sure what we were talking about.

Sounds like this is more like a CableCard, which, although legal, can be 
difficult to get working, mostly due to resistance on the part of the cable 
companies.
