Well, I'm about to give up.  I'm starting to think I really do have
defective hardware.  I compiled using setup.sh and turned on
debugging.  I verified that the mceusb.c driver had the fix that Jarod
made 2 days ago, so I'm positive I'm using the correct source.
Everything compiles and installs without a hitch and the software all
responds the way it's supposed to.

dmesg output looks normal, and the debug feedback claims SUCCESS when
executing irsend, but I am definitely not getting any IR out of the
tranamitters.

One difference I noted between your dmesg and mine however.  Your
lirc_dev is registered at major 61 where as mine is registered at
major 247.

I'll probably try RMA'ing the tranceiver and if that doesn't work I'll
go the IguanaIR route.
