Ah, good question.   I was referring to the IR receiver that is built
into the HVR-950q.  I cannot speak to the external IR transceiver or
it's compatibility with Linux.  Also, I don't know whether it's a
combination IR receiver and transmitter, or whether it's just an IR
transmitter only and relies on the 950q's receiver (I suspect the
former though if I had to guess).
