I think it would work. The scenario is that you watch for the end of the
game to see how late it is. Whether you do it manually or automatically
you have to know that number, In this case it happened to be 74 minutes
(the game was over at 8:14 est).
You enter 74/8:14/cbs and any cbs program scheduled to start after 8:14
would get a start/end override of 74 minutes. Any cbs show scheduled to
record with starting time before 8:14 and ending time after 8:14 would
get an override end of 74 minutes.
This would err in the direction of too much recording, CBS dropped the
scheduled 10PM show that would have started at 11:14.
It's not perfect, it wouldn't handle any program that ended before you
entered the displacement. It wouldn't handle the case where they dropped
a program in the middle of the schedule. It could cause conflicts if you
don't have enough tuners.
A 74 minute delay is very unusual. It just seems like it would make the
case of a few minute delay easier to handle than manually doing the
adjustment on each subsequent program.
