right no error messages.
/var/log/messages does show:

May 13 19:23:08 killtivo lircd-0.8.4a[5934]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
May 13 19:23:08 killtivo lircd-0.8.4a[5934]: removed client

I don't know if lircd has any other printk msgs.that I could toggle to
see what's going on.
executing lircd -n on the command line and executing an irsend
provides the same output as above.
