Michael,
Thank you for responding.

Okay... it does seem to get set to channel 1 by default, which I assume
should be okay, as channel 1 in Japan is a valid broadcast channel (NHK).

I'm getting a little stuck at the "fill in xmltvid" phase of these
instructions.
In "Channel Options - Common", I'm trying to edit the "XMLTV ID" for
channel number 1.
When I give focus to the input box for "XMLTV ID", some explanatory text
shows up at the bottom of the interface.
Unfortunately, the text is too long and it cuts off at the bottom of the
screen and I can't find any option to scroll down or read any more of
it. (I've tried all sorts of methods of trying to mouse click in the
area and copy and paste it, but to no avail).
The text says:
"ID Used by listing services to get an exact correspondence between a
channel in your line-up and a channel in their database. Normally this
is set..."
Normally set to what? Of course, I hit the Google trail to find out how
this key sentence ends, but I can't find it or any clear instructions on
what I should be inputting.
Is there any information source that will give me a list of what to put
in this field for the broadcast channels in Japan?
Thank you for any advice.
