[mythtv-users] Core 2 Duo iMac, terrible performance as front end

I must be doing something wrong - I just picked up a 20 inch iMac with a
2.4GHZ Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM and ATI mobility HD 2400 video, and I can't get
reliably good playback on the thing. Through trial and error I found that
setting the playback to slim gives me at least moderately good performance,
but it's very far from what I expected, especially since the Macbook I just
got rid of was way better with its integrated Intel graphics. Setting the
playback to CPU++ makes SD run out of sync with the audio, and HD is 1 frame
every 30 seconds with sound just looping.

SD playback is acceptable but a little choppy, and 1080i HD (recorded via
HDHomeRun) is pretty choppy. CPU hits on average about 155% during HD
playback. I unchecked the setting to auto-scale recordings to fill the
screen thinking that perhaps that was the source of my issue but it didn't
seem to do anything. My other FE is an Athlon 1.8 with a GeForce 5200 and it
plays much better. Is Intel with XvMC just better than ATI, or is there a
magic setting I can change to make everything work?
