Others have given many excellent responses and suggestions, so the
only thing I can add from my recent experience running 64-bit with
more than 4GB RAM is that it tends to uncover some bugs that don't
exist/apply in the 32-bit world with less than 4GB RAM. For instance,
the AMD Phenom 9x00 BE TLB bug, the Atheros atl0 driver bug, etc. My
myth box ran 32-bit without problems, but after switching to 64-bit
and 8GB RAM it runs into issues. Most have been fixed or have
workarounds, but Live TV is still a bit dodgy.

One other little thing that comes across my mind is that if I were to
do it again (i.e., spec. out a new MythTV box), I wouldn't discount an
Intel-based solution. As much as I like AMD their bleeding edge CPUs
(i.e., Phenom Quad Core) seem to be quite buggy.

FWIW.
