Setting AC3 passthrough to disabled and max audio channels to stereo
will mix the 5 channel audio down to two and I can then hear the
dialog, but it sort of defeats the purpose of having a 5.1 surround
sound speaker system if I'm going to downmix everything to 2 channels.

When AC3 passthrough is enabled, the max audio channels setting seems
to have no effect.
