[mythtv-users] Two mytharchive problems/questions

I gave mytharchive a try again last week, although I and many others
seem to keep running into problems with this.

First, the more serious issue:

Although this is supposedly fixed (see
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/226103#226103) (I use
mythtv 0.21) I have the problem of mytharchive changing all the files in
my home directory to 666 and all the directories to 777. Not only is
this bad in and of itself, but when I reboot, Mythbuntu (8.04) will send
all kinds of errors because it can't read setting files (apparently the
permissions issues screws it up or whatever). I have backups, so I am
set, but this makes mytharchive unusable for me. I can't seem to find
where the log file is for this to see what it reports.

Now, the quality issue:

I did actually burn the DVD I wanted to do. However, like many over the
air recordings, it had about one or two seconds where the signal
strength dropped below the minimum and lost some video. Playing the
recording back plays everything OK (just a nasty blocky/color and a
squeak for that one point in the recording). However, when I burn the
DVD, the drop-out of the video is skipped, but the sound isn't and so
the video and the sound are off by a second or two for the rest of the
video.

I suppose a simple fix of this would be to just cut out that one second
of the video before burning. But it would be nice if the DVD played
like the mythtv recording.

I understand that the mytharchive process produces separate video and
sound files, then re-MUXes them together, so I am sure that is where the
error is introduced.

Is there any workaround or setting for this problem?

Thanks.

J.S.
