I've just checked the source on trunk ; and the fix forcing the use of
OpenGL 1.2 is definitely in there:

Are you using a nvidia card ? this bug is with the nvidia drivers. I never
got the opengl code to work properly with the Intel GMA950, X3100 or X4500


Odd, as I am runing trunk from mid January, but I am getting the black

Are you always getting a black screen, or only the 2nd time to trying to
watch something ?
the bug i'm talking about is only for the later.

If you always get a blank screen, then it's another issue that I don't know
about

Right now you can get 8400gs, 8500gt and 9400gs in PCI form, it seems.
