[mythtv-users] Deinterlacing settings for 6200 vs 8400GS and VDPU???

I have been following with interest the discussion on VDPAU and purchased an
8400GS in anticipation. I thought that I would try and see what interlacing
is best for my system until VDPAU is stable. I read the two main wikis on
the subject, http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Playback_profiles and
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Deinterlacing along with several posts. I came
to the conclusion that I would just have to try the different settings. I
have an AMD 5400+ driving either a TV or a 720p projector. I did my testing
using the 1080i PBS opening that has a white field moving quickly across the
screen that I am sure everyone is familiar with. I did an evaluation of how
that bar looked moving and how it looked paused.

On the TV, not much to pick from unless you pause the picture then Kernel
was good. I don't think Bob2 would start with the TV so it is effectively
none. The TV is interlaced so I don't think it really matters.

With the projector, "none" is unacceptable. The modes labeled high cpu usage
(vadif etc) lived up to their billing, some hitting 100% and producing very
jerky pictures so they have to wait for VDPAU. Kernel produced very good
results on the paused picture but just OK on the motion. It had CPU of
about 45%. Bob2x produced what looked like excellent results on the moving
bar but seemed to do nothing helpful when the picture is paused. Interest
Bob only used about 25% CPU which makes me think that I might be getting
some acceleration out of my 6200 card.

Now I see that some people are looking forward to VDPAU to run Bob 2x, which
runs very well on my 6200 apparently.

So, is a 6200 giving me an advantage and is VDPAU going to just give me the
higher modes? There seems to be some question if the 8400GS will do the
higher modes so will I see any advantage from VDPAU?

Anyway, I am a little unsure of all this and of what the best settings are.
I have documented what I think I found and would like some comments.
Perhaps I have done something wrong and can go back and check my results.
Perhaps my 6200 is doing a great job and I should be happy with it. I
welcome all comments.
